Getting Released From a Job

How can you get released from a job and get ready for a new job? Here are the steps.

(1) If your contract ends and you decide not to renew your contract with your employer,  you need to get a release letter from your employer.

(2) Then your employer needs to cancel your work permit.

(3) After that, you need to cancel your residence permit and get a 30 days’ humanitarian stay visa that can be transferred to a new work visa. This is the practice in Shanghai. In many other cities in China, your valid residence permit can be directly transferred into a new work visa without being transferred into a humanitarian stay visa first.

(4) If you break a contract, you need to give 30 days’ notice according to Chinese law. The other steps are the same as the above.
