Tips and Reminders for Teachers on Probation

 

We all know that the probation period is the time for the school and the teachers to evaluate each other. Here are some tips and reminders for the teachers. It is obviously to the teachers’ disadvantages to look for a new job during the probation period due to the visa issue and the shortage of good jobs as well as the difficulty of finding a good one. Schools usually will have a second thought about hiring a teacher who did not pass a probation period.

 

In the class

(1) Be passionate. Speak with passion and teach students with passion. If you are not  passionate, students will be bored.

(2) Be Interactive. Being interactive is one of the key qualities required for a good teacher. In the class, you need to interact with students esp working as an ESL teacher.

(3) Be interesting. One of the most qualities of a good teacher is being humorous. If you are humorous, you will mostly likely be a popular teacher.

(4) Be likeable. This is especially important for you when you applying for a job teaching young kids. Primary schools or kindergartens prefer a teacher who is likeable and close to kids.

 

Others

(1) Be cooperative. Follow the school rules and regulations.

(2) Be punctual and professional. If you do not the dress code of the school, it is always good to be a bit formal.

(3) Get along with your students, students’ parents and colleagues. Do not be too strict with the students. Never punish your students physically.

(4) Be helpful and proactive in participating in school activities esp. during the probation period.

(5) Be professional with your colleagues of the opposite sex.

(6) Never come to the school with a strong drinking smell or smoking smell. Never drink and smoke on campus.
